Thirty Seconds to Steer Your Day (Before Autopilot Kicks In)
That brief gap after waking is yours—before the familiar programme starts rolling.
I ask you to picture Batman or Wonder Woman still in bed, teddy-bear pyjamas, fragile as a newborn. That is closer to truth than any poster. When you wake, your subconscious is still asking where it is. That state passes quickly—maybe thirty seconds—but those seconds sit right before your "superhero day" begins. I keep asking: do you know how to use them?
First: smile. If you have not trained it lately, lift the right cheek toward the right ear and the left toward the left ear—I call it visual stretching—and endorphins rise fast. I smile even when I do not feel like it, until it becomes habit. Trust me: this little thing can become a real lever for falling in love with life and with yourself again.
Here in Italy I watch people leap up already fighting time, already late, then grab an espresso—a strong stimulant—on top of high adrenaline. That locks you into fight-or-flight; the whole world feels against you. Then the fridge closes wrong, the table is messy, the light turns red, and each annoyance only confirms the "crooked day" you already chose. Sounds strange? I believe we programme our mornings. Try one day differently: before you explode out of bed, take a deep belly breath and smile.
While your heart beats, you always have another chance. And your smile might change someone else’s morning—you wake up and you have already done two good deeds: one toward yourself, one toward a stranger you may never know.
I know what it is to open my eyes and have no will to rise—not laziness, but apathy whispering that getting up changes nothing. I lived that even when my body was healthy; each day felt too large; I felt defeated at the first blink. When I began wishing for death, I knew I needed help. Help reached me in Warsaw through listening, prayer, tears. I tell you this only to say: if those first moments feel heavy, you are not alone—and they are still worth reclaiming. Here I stay only with this first window; mirror work, tongue scraping, and how I teach you to stand up from bed without wrecking your spine live in their own pieces so I do not repeat the steps.
